Music by the Bacevičius/Bacewicz siblings heard at Carnegie Hall and other coveted venues
The recital program consisting of works by brother and sister Vytautas Bacevičius (1905-1970) and Grażyna Bacewicz (1909-1969), framed by compositions by Beethoven, Faure, and Liszt, was one of the first attempts to juxtapose compositions of these two fascinating personalities that came to represent two different nations, Lithuania and Poland. In the second half of 2013, Gabrielius Alekna brought this original program to audiences at the National Gallery in Washington, D.C., United Nations Offices in Geneva, Polish Institute in Rome, and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall as well as in numerous venues and festivals in Lithuania. In Geneva, Gabrielius Alekna was joined by the acclaimed Polish violinist Bartlomiej Niziol in Bacewicz’s compositions for violin and piano, including her Sonata No. 4.
